The challenge
Reflowable EPUB 3, the standard defined by the W3C, is the most versatile format for distributing digital books, but producing it at scale takes more than simply "converting the print edition". The content has to be redesigned for digital so that it reads well on any screen (e-readers, tablets, phones) and meets the strict technical criteria of the major global stores and platforms. Any slip in the process produces rejections that hold up distribution.
Our approach
In partnership with Bookwire, one of the largest digital book distributors in the world, we built a large-scale production pipeline with design made for digital from the start, automated validation and quality control per publisher. Every title is checked with EPUBCheck before distribution and tested in several reading apps, which cuts platform rejections and shortens time to market.
Result
8,725 books produced over the course of the partnership, putting the catalogues of leading publishers (Todavia, Valer, Senac, WMF Martins Fontes, ABERJ, Ultimato and Pão Diário) into the main global digital bookstores. The platform rejection rate stayed close to zero thanks to automated checks before delivery.
